With the BERTScope, you can quickly measure to levels of 1x10-8, or wait for the instrument to measure 1x10-12 directly. Either way, the BERTScope?s one-button measurements are compliant to the MJSQ jitter methodology, and because the underlying delay control is the best available on any BERT, you can be sure that the measurements are accurate. Use the built-in calculations for Total Jitter (TJ), Random Jitter (RJ) and Deterministic Jitter (DJ) or easily export the data and use your own favorite jitter model.
Hook up a GigaProbes(tm) to the BERTScope as a Probe to inject or measure differential pattern Jitter
Use the GigaProbes™ to inject or measure digital eye patterns onto 100 or 50 ohm lines. In this example, the user injected digital patterns on a prototype circuit board ASIC layout pin connected via differential traces to an active line card. The BERTScope measured the deterministic jitter effect of the passive PCB layout to include the random jitter of the active line card.Different line cards designs and PCB layouts can be used to determine the best approach to reduce total system jitter.
The Gigaprobes is not recommended to be placed in parallel with the signal as there may be excessive loading and the receiver may not have enough energy to give a good eye pattern reading. The GigaProbes IS very effective as a digital pattern source probe or receiver for the BERTscope eye pattern measurement.
